A Community Discussion About our Future
by Ken Lombard
That’s what we’ve
decided to call the planned Community Profile event, to be held on Friday
evening, April 2nd and most of Saturday, April 3rd
at New Boston Central School. We
decided that the title, New Boston Speaks sends the message
that everyone should come and speak about what they want New Boston to be.
UNH Cooperative Extension personnel, assisted by our own New Boston
small group discussion leaders, will facilitate the overall event.
The goal is to encourage everyone to share ideas that they feel
will be beneficial for the town’s future.
For those who haven’t
heard about this yet, New Boston Speaks will be an event
that allows the town to take stock of where we are today and to plan for
the future. It consists of a
day and a half of large and small group discussions.
The information obtained will be recorded and used to produce a
complete record of events. This record can be used to define some projects
for immediate action, as well as to provide direction for our Master Plan
update, scheduled for this year.
The steering committee
is hard at work on the logistics of holding this event.
To be successful, New Boston Speaks must have as wide
participation as possible. We’re
hoping for a minimum of 150 people. For
that to happen, we want to make it as easy
for you to attend as possible. Friday
evening will start with supper. We’re
working on the details of whether it will be potluck, or maybe a spaghetti
meal, but the key point is that there will be a supper there.
Childcare is in the works for those who will need it both on Friday
night and Saturday. On
Saturday we’ll have coffee in the morning and are working on the details
for lunch. We also plan to
arrange transportation for those who need it.
Our steering committee
is about 12 people strong, but we still need help in many areas for this
event to happen. We will be asking some of you to help with dinner and
lunch, facilitate small groups, and help with the clean up afterwards.
Businesses can help as well by providing food and refreshments, or
helping with the publicity campaign.
If you feel you can help in any way, please call 487-5114 or send
us a interest request.
We’re planning an
event that will be both fun and productive.
If we all contribute our best ideas, it will have a large impact on
our future. Right now, we all
see the future through our own perspective, but by working together and
sharing ideas, we can find and improve the best of these for use in
planning. One outcome may be
a better way for us to keep each other informed about our town.
In this computer age, the Web offers ways to do this.
Information about this event will be placed on the website: www.newbostonspeaks.org.
Take a look. New information will be posted as it becomes available.
We hope you’ll agree, Time
spent on New Boston is not wasted.
